Showers of Blessing Mobile Shower Trailers Offering Outdoor Wipes and New Shower Site.

Showers of Blessing, a mobile showers program that provides free, hot showers to houseless residents in southern Santa Barbara County, has suffered the  shutdown of four of its sites due COVID-19. In an attempt to provide our houseless guests hygiene during the COVID-19 crisis, Showers is handing out 30-day packs of biodegradable outdoor wipes and is opening a temporary shower site on Tuesday at Earl Warren Showgrounds.

“Our houseless guests are desperate, desperate for showers, shelter and food. To continue to afford our houseless guests hygiene during the COVID-19 crisis, we have purchased 30-sheet pack extra-large biodegradable outdoor wipes and opened a new site this Tuesday only from 10 am-1 pm at Earl Warren Showgrounds,” said Ken Ralph, Executive Director.

“We are very fortunate that Seattle residents Alice Shobe and Eric Svaren and local residents Rod Lathim and Chris and Krista Frohling have donated the initial supply of 30-day packs of biodegradable outdoor wipes for our houseless guests. We are also grateful that Earl Warren Showgrounds has offered their site on Tuesday.

“Understandably, wipes are not the same as having a hot shower, but on most Tuesdays and Wednesdays when we are not able to host showers, the wipes provide an alternative source of hygiene for our houseless guests.

“Our sites this week include St. Michael’s in Isla Vista on Monday and Friday, Earl Warren Showgrounds this Tuesday and St. Athanasius in Goleta on Thursday,” said Executive Director Ken Ralph.

Showers of Blessing is continuing to look for alternative sites to provide mobile hot showers for the community. Ralph is meeting with various organizations to see if the mobile shower trailer may come to their sites during the COVID-19 pandemic. Showers of Blessing is also requesting community support for purchases of wipes and for sponsorships of food at the sites.

In addition to free, hot mobile showers, Showers of Blessing also provides each guest with a new pair of underwear, new pair of socks, and toiletries including shampoo, conditioner and razors.

The Santa Barbara County Department of Health’s has approved Showers continuation of operations. Showers weekly schedule this week is:
